Abstract

Intercultural practice embraces diversity as an educational paradigm (Catarci, Macinai, 2015) and identities and cultures are considered as formative and performative processes of hybridization and crossbreeding (Burgio 2013). The paper examines two narrative paths, from oral expression to writing, promoted by APS Asinitas, held in an Italian language school for mothers with migrant backgrounds and with a group of second-generation girls. The organized paths allowed for the collection of participants’ voices and stories and led to the drafting of collective booklets capable of conveying the sense of a gendered community, heterogeneous along more than one dimension. Narration becomes the third space of the intercultural encounter (Bhabha, 1996) of community construction that opens itself to public discourse, renegotiating sociocultural and gender expectations.
